Why Should My Children Learn How to Play Piano?
There are a million reasons, beginning with, “Mom, I’m bored!” Then there’s the possibility of college scholarships—most institutions do not require that music scholarships go only to music majors. There is a social aspect to playing the piano, getting children into the real world, away from becoming television/gaming couch potatoes. Also, teenagers who set goals that they value are less apt to become problem kids. Of course there is one consideration to ponder before heading for the music store to buy your first piano. Does your child want to learn how to play piano? I have found that praising good pianists and taking my children to concerts does increase their desire—and that’s not being devious. It’s just encouraging them toward a valuable experience.
