12 Volt Televisions ATSC Ready with DVD

As we all know we have a conversion coming up soon. February to be exact! You should get ready now. There are some awesome deals out there on portable 12 volt LCD TV’s that are digital compliant with ATSC tuners built in. Most that I have found are LCD so they use less power than CRT (tube type) TV’s and most even have built in DVD players. It doesn’t get much better than that. From reading all the specs I have found that on average the CRT 12 volt TV’s can draw  up to 15 amps when they are turned on and up to 10 amps continuous from your vehicles dc battery. The LCD 12 volt TV’s with the DVD player in use only draw around 5 amps of continuous power from your dc battery.  If you are one of the many who feel that using an analog to digital converter box is the way to go be prepared to run your generator or continue to start and run your vehicle. They are only available in 110v AC. Most 12 volt to 110v AC power inverters are noisy and draw a lot of power to create the 110 you will need. In the long run you are much better off with a 12 volt LCD TV with a built in digital tuner.
