Why Businesses Should Take Plastic?

If a business chooses not to accept credit cards, they are leaving a lot of potential revenue on the table. It is something that is easy to setup for almost any business. The cost and effort associated with the setup pale in comparison to the revenue that will be generated from the additional sales via credit cards.

There are many studies that show consumers are more likely to spend and spend more when there is an option to pay by credit card. Instead of buying one item, the consumer might buy more based upon having a credit line that far exceeds what they have in cash. Also, consumers have more trust with a business that accepts credit cards. Although merchants hate the ability for consumers to initiate a chargeback, it is also a reason why consumers are willing to take a risk with a relatively unknown merchant. This means more revenue from those who might not otherwise trust the business. The vast majority of customers will never have a problem and won’t utilize the ability to chargeback.

The process to set up merchant credit card processing is very simple. Everything can be done online. There is no need to set up another account at a financial institution as long as there is a business bank account somewhere already established. Once the application has been approved, a merchant account will be set up quickly. At the same time, a credit card terminal will be shipped to the business as well. It should not take very much time to get the whole thing set up.

The process of getting the money after a credit card sale is easy and quick as well. For most merchants, it is possible to get the money transferred to the business account at another financial institution within a couple of days. Keep in mind that it will take longer for those who are considered high-risk accounts. Overall, the pros of accepting plastic is much higher than the cons. The increased customer traffic and revenue will make up for any cost. That is why most businesses choose to take credit cards already.
