A Few Brief Facts about Italian Dual Citizenship

You may be wondering what it takes to become an Italian citizen and especially what requirements are necessary in applying for Italian dual citizenship.  Just because you don’t speak Italian does not mean you can’t be a citizen.  All you have to do is prove your lineage to an Italian citizen and you do not have to reside in Italy.  Your Italian citizenship can be granted through your great grandparents because there is no generational limit for citizenship through ancestry.  You are eligible for dual citizenship if you have never become a naturalized citizen of your adopted country.  If you renounced your Italian citizenship before August 15, 1992 you can reinstate it by returning to Italy and living there for at least one year.
