Tips For Training a Puppy

Planning ahead is your first task when preparing for training a puppy, as it will help a great deal in relocating a young dog or puppy to his new strange new world from his comfy and secure home with his mother. It is a very stressful and worrying event for a puppy when he is taken away from his mother and siblings, and then is suddenly moved to strange and confusing habitat with completely alien smells and faces to get used to.

These emotions don’t just apply to young puppies. Even adult dogs are somewhat bewildered by seemingly needless alterations to their living environment. You need to be constantly reassuring your dog when you move him to a new home; he’ll just notice that his friends are gone and he doesn’t recognize anything.

If humanly possible, go visit your new dog at his existing home. Doing this will help break the ice between you both and help him get used to you. The benefit of taking this approach is that when you begin, training a puppy you’ll find he’s much more eager to learn being that you’re good friends already. I appreciate this is not always possible so, you could ask the old owner for something from the dog’s bed, such as a cushion or familiar toy or just something that will remind him of home and adjust to his new home.
