Will Mark Spitz’s Record Be Broken at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing
At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich Mark Spitz entered seven events winning gold medals for all of them, while also breaking the world record for each event. The question on everyone’s minds today is, will American swimmer Michael Phelps match or eclipse Mark Spitz’s record at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Matt Biondi, the last swimmer to attempt to break Spitz’s record doesn’t think the odds are in Phelps favor. It isn’t that he doesn’t think Phelps is not up to the task or is less competitive, but "The goal keeps getting more difficult as the field of competitors around the world improves," Biondi said. Although Biondi did wish Phelps’s luck in his target of winning eight gold medals, "I hope he does it".
