Are Megapixel 3-CCD Cameras Worth the Additional Cost ?

A lot of people are confused about what advantages Megapixel 3-CCD Cameras bring compared to single CCD cameras.  In a nutshell, it’s all about resolution and color control.  In order to generate color in a single CCD sensor, a color filter matrix is laid down over the CCD substrate.  Most typically 50% of the pixels are filtered for Green, and 25% for Red and Blue each.  What’s that mean ?  It means that for a typical 1 megapixel camera, only 250,000 pixels are seeing blue or red details in the image.  Compared to a 3-CCD 1 megapixel camera which dedicates a full CCD pixel array to each Red, Green, and Blue color component.  This makes a huge difference in image resolution and color control.  For more information on 3-CCD Megapixel cameras visit Bluecoast Imaging at www.bluecoastimaging.com.
